Has anyone heard of these guys? I just don’t know what to make of them… If you are unfamiliar with this group, check out the website (spelled g-zero-y) and please let me know what you think… I stumbled on to it, and I repeat, i just don’t know what to think. This really doesn’t have anything to do with orthodoxy per se, but there is a Christian component to this g0y thing. Looking forward to hearing your opinions!
MariaGuestAfter a brief read of their website, they sound homophobic and misogynistic to me. I find this quote (at the head of the page) disturbing:
“N0 TOPS, N0 BOTTOMS, N0 ANAL, N0 BITCHES, N0 TRANNYS, N0 MANGINAS, N0 GENDERFUKK,
N0 DISRESPECT: JUST MEN WHO HAPPEN TO LOVE OTHER MEN – AS MEN. WE ARE THE G0YS!”Perhaps their desire to not be considered “gay” is from the persecution and negative stereotyping the LBGT community faces. They want to insist that they are “real” men, while many in society consider men who are attracted to men to be effeminate.
IsaacGuestI would say to let them be. We don’t know for what reason or what cause they say what they say. Perhaps it’s internalized homophobia? When we let go of judgement, we are liberated from unnecessary burdens.
anonPriestGuestI agree with Isaac and pretty much with Maria too. When I first looked at there site (first heard about it here); I actually had the hope that their’s was an orientation/philosophy I could apply to my own life and approach to same-sex attraction. But their total disavowal of effeminacy is disturbing. There’s no “live and let live” here; no acknowledgment that some gay men ARE effeminate, or that we all have masculine and feminine aspects to our personalities. Internalized homophopbia seems about right. Their disavowal of anal sex (which I’m not advocating — In many ways I agree with what they say about it) crosses the line into obsession. One of those “methinks thou dost protest too much” kind of situations. …..
On a totally different note; I came across an interesting opinion just this morning; it states that the prohibitions against two men having sex together found in the Bible are directed toward STRAIGHT men. Maybe this is nothing new, but I’ve never heard it before. The opinion states that the prohibitions are directed toward men who tend to have sex with “anything that moves”, and that regulation of their actions is needed. The opinion states that God would not prohibit intimate love between two people who are actually homosexual, but that this love should be expressed within the context of relationship / love. …. Any thoughts, reactions ?
JoeGuestAfter looking at the g0y site again, I get the feeling that “they” (whoever they are, I’ve never met anyone who called himself a g0y) are only citing scripture to endorse/validate their own views; a very familiar phenomenon! I think they’ve got some good points about “gay culture” and how unattractive it is to some of us. They also seem very, very concerned with outward appearances/good looks and overly media-conscious, which I perceive as being two VERY unattractive aspects of so-called “gay culture”… Thank you all for your feedback!
