    Hello,
I am quite confused. The bible is against gay sex, but what does that have to do with prohibiting gay marriage? Honestly, I can’t find a single passage that says gay marriage is wrong. I only find some that say gay sex is wrong. I also find passages that say all sexuality is a gift from God. I myself am not homosexual, but I am asexual, so I am not really seeing a point in sex to begin with aside from emotional connection and reproduction. But as an asexual, I see other ways to establish deep emotional connection. Why is there no platonic gay marriage allowed? I apologize for disorganized thoughts.

    Hi Marie šŸ™‚
I don’t think the bible says all gay sex is wrong. It only mentions gay sex in very specific contexts, all of which are related to either rape or idolatry. To me, saying this means the bible is against gay sex is like saying that every time the bible mentions adultery or prostitution, it’s against heterosexual sex.

Oh, that actually makes so much more sense, thank you very much! šŸ™‚ very kind of you to respond. Of that is the case, then why is same-sex marriage not allowed because of same-sex sex? I can’t understand why some people use that as an argument. I read that all sexuality is divine and gift from God, but am told that quite the opposite. Then told same-sex marriage is wrong and unholy, but nowhere I can find is that stated in Bible. I was told opposite sex marriage make you closer to God, why wouldn’t same sex if you are truly in love and expressing grace and happiness and not using it as means of sinning? This is confusing, no? I read, but am misguided by what others tell me perhaps? I shouldn’t listen to others, I know. I am only currently searching for answers instead of blindly being misleader. I am not of Orthodox Christianity, I was raised Methodist (not practicing anymore as I cannot bring myself to believe in this hate against human). My life I am told that you are mentally ill for not being straight, and I cannot find where God say that. Does that make sense? Pardon my Engish please. I just cannot find where same-sex marriage is said wrong.

Marie, nothing is wrong with you. People who say negative things about you because you aren’t straight are only talking about an experience in which they do not understand. That’s like me talking about what it’s like to be a woman when I’m not. As for intimate activity with your partner, if it is done with love and consent, then what is wrong with it? Nothing. You can’t fix what isn’t broken. Sex does not revolve around God and following God isn’t all about sex and marriage. It’s superficial if only heterosexuality would bring one closer to God. God is not petty.

Welcome! I think I know how you feel Marie, (And don’t worry, your English is just fine šŸ™‚ ) One thing I try to remember when contemplating this subject is that Judeo-Christian ideas about marriage have already been redefined numerous times since the biblical era… It is my understanding that in those times marriage was primarily a business arrangement, even sometimes political or strategic, with any affection or love between the couple as a pleasant (but relavtily unimportant) “perk”. That is clearly a different definition of marriage than we have today. Can you imagine if modern Christians actually followed the marriage customs of the ancient Israelites, complete with dowries, plural marriage, etc.?
It is also my feeling that there is no sin that could result from being homosexual that can’t also be done by heterosexual people. It is all very confusing indeed, especially for those of us these issues affect directly, but as I hear so often from Orthodox folks, “anything is possible with God”!
May He guide you in your search.

I’m very sorry, I feel so terrible. I am trying hard to understand but I’m not sure I do. Why was I falsely informed otherwise in past? Why would someone do that? Do they know they do that? Why is gay marriage truly not allowed? There is no reason to make it illegal. Why is it considered wrong? How do I get Gods guidance? šŸ™

Some people condemn and hate what they don’t understand, Marie šŸ™
It’s much easier to say, “ew, gross, that’s wrong!” than it is to try and understand something foreign to you. Minorities are always marginalized.
But Our Lord told us to love the outsider. It’s hard to do. I think that’s why šŸ™

I agree… And please don’t let yourself get too sad over the issue… We should rejoice when we are persecuted, and pray for those who persecute us… We can only fight hatred with love!

Marie, it’s best to live our lives happy and honest with ourselves. People don’t know any better and say homophobic comments out of ignorance due to their lack of knowledge. Please don’t let the ignorance of other people make you feel sad or hurt.

    Dear Marie,
I am assuming that you have a particular interest in Orthodox Christianity… I myself am only an “inquirer”, and like yourself, am from a Protestant background. I would like to invite you to do some research on your own (I barely understand it, so I shouldn’t try to explain it) about one of the first things I leaned about Orthodoxy, and that is the difference between Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition… This research may give you some answers (at least from an Orthodox view point) to your questions about the Bible. Even if I’m totally wrong, it doesn’t hurt to learn something new. Hope this helps! šŸ™‚
