If I were an Orthodox head-of-household in a Orthodox-majority country, it would be hard still, but not THIS hard!
I am keeping the fast in my heart, but the dietary rules have proven to be all but unkeepable in my house… (My Episcopalian husband wants a hamburger, and can’t see any reason why I won’t join him) I’m finding that there is a limit to how much “observance” I can keep without totally alienating everyone around me and becoming an annoying preachy “religious guy” who everyone hates to be around and wouldn’t listen to for any reason, let alone their own potential salvation.JoeGuestThat being said, I truly hope that anyone reading this weird little thread on this weird little website is having a less faith-testing lent than am I..
In the name of the F,S,& HS, Through the intersections of the most holy Theotokos, may all who strive to keep this season as important and special as it should be, be strengthened in this most serious of trials. Amen.+++++++JoeGuestThat’s “intersessions”, not “intersections”… (Of course)… I don’t think Theotokos is some sort of traffic-cop… Although, that might not be such a bad analogy… She does give us “directions”!
JoeGuestThat word in my last post should have been “intersessions”, not “intersections”… (Of course)… I don’t think Theotokos is some sort of traffic-cop… Although, that might not be such a bad analogy… She does give us good directions and always points out the best way to go, right?
JoeGuestOh blast this dummy phone-computer… I didn’t mean to give two versions of the same dumb thing… I’m not as retarded as I come across… I’d have written the whole thing on papyrus in ancient Greek, but that seems to be an even better way of acquiring scorn and contempt.
MariaGuestIt IS hard, you’re right! I’ve been successfully avoiding meat, but I have been eating dairy (for health reasons as well – last time I cut both dairy and meat I got quite ill).
I’ve not been praying enough though, or attending Liturgy… I get in these funks of such low faith that it’s hard to even mutter “have mercy on me, a sinner”. 🙁JoeGuestI know what you mean. I’ve been in a slump lately too. (I’m currently unemployed, and it’s really starting to get to me.) I have to force myself to pray sometimes. I guess forced prayers are better than consciously deciding not to pray, which I admit to doing sometimes. (It’s always for a really lame reason too, like “I don’t have time” or “I’m too angry right now”.)
I hope you’re feeling better by the time you read this! 🙂 -
