My mom told me that there have been cases of unworthy people who took communion in Orthodox churches and subsequently became seriously ill and have even died. At first, this sounds superstitious to me, but could there there be any truth to this? If this is a true belief of The Church, than wouldn’t our friend the former priest Andriy have been dead many times over now if homosexuality is a such a great big giant sin?

I mean, the fact that gay people take communion all the time without being “struck down” or even detected by the priest should point towards the possibility that Christ wants ALL people, as long as they confess and repent their sins, even the sins they are not aware of, to partake in the Eucharist. Sin is not without side effects, so if my same sex marriage is a sin, why is it a source of happiness and joy to me? Shouldn’t it be a destructive and negative thing, since sin makes your life worse, not better? Just some thoughts… I could be way off base here! Thank you for reading.

    I don’t think I consider taking communion while in a same-sex marriage to be a sin… I don’t think same-sex marriage is a sin.
I think willfully taking communion when you are aware of and unrepentant about your sins is the problem. If we are in fact wrong and same-sex marriage is a sin afterall, I think God will have mercy on us because He knows our hearts and that we are not intentionally taking communion with sins on us.
These are just my own thoughts.
